During the Paris Design Week, XXL Medallion ‘Battle of Life’ was one of the pieces exhibited in Hall 7 at one of the inspiration rooms of Nelly Rodi. Vincent Grégoire curated the ‘House of Games’, and choose this particular piece of art to join the exhibition. This xxl-medallion can also be seen in the background of the France2-Telematin broadcast of 2 september 2016.
‘Battle of Life’ is about the dance of life; to play with visibility & invisibility (dragonflies) and movement & reflection (chess set). The work is inspired by the life of Catherine de Bourbon (1440-1469).
Keywords: noble origin (Fleur-de-Lys & deer), spiritual and emotional (duck), faith, hope and love (cross, anker, heart & fire), energie and power (horse), pride and dignity (peacock), circle of life (kids), power and succes (swords, jewels, houses). At the end, everyone has its own battle of life; wealthy or not.
